Simplon: A decade at the heart of digital technology and people

2013

The beginning of the adventure

In Montreuil, three visionary friends, Frédéric Bardeau, Andrei Vladescu-Olt and Erwan Kezzar, had a crazy dream: to create a French training programme that was inclusive, free and open to all.
Inspired by the bootcamps that were springing up in Silicon Valley, they launched Simplon. The first class in Ruby On Rails was born, made up of 30 passionate learners with diverse backgrounds: 50% women, aged 18 to 52, with educational backgrounds ranging from high school to master's degrees, and even 17 different nationalities!

2014-2015

Spin-offs

The Simplon model is expanding. A network of ‘Fabriques’ is opening in priority neighbourhoods and rural areas in France and even abroad (Romania, South Africa).

The first round of fundraising consolidates the model and enables the company to obtain the CQP (Certificate of Professional Qualification) in New Technology Development.
‍
Simplon Prod, the solidarity-based digital manufacturing workshop, and the Simplon Foundation are created, marking the company's strong social commitment.

2016-2017

Growth

Simplon becomes the first training network to be awarded the ‘Grande École du Numérique’ label by the French government.
The international adventure continues in Belgium, Lebanon and Ivory Coast. A new round of funding from players in the social and solidarity economy has enabled Simplon to double its workforce and impact year on year.
Simplon Corp specialises in training employees affected by digital transformation, and DigitESS supports the transition of players with a positive impact.

2018-2019

Taking off towards social impact

Taking off towards social impact
To mark its sixth anniversary, Simplon has raised €12 million from social economy investors. Its social impact has quadrupled, with more than 5,600 people trained and a 75% positive exit rate.
The network now has 78 Fabriques, including 24 abroad.
Simplon Corp has trained over a thousand employees.

2020-2021

Resilience

The health crisis has not stopped Simplon. Training courses are now being delivered remotely, maintaining an active and inclusive teaching approach.
In October 2020, Simplon exceeded 10,000 learners trained. The adventure continues, with new challenges and exciting prospects ahead.

2022

Work-study programmes: a springboard to the future

Simplon develops work-study programmes to meet the needs of businesses and learners, combining theoretical training with professional experience.

2023

10 years, 30,000 graduates, and a tenfold increase in ambition

Simplon is celebrating its 10th anniversary! More than 30,000 learners have been trained worldwide, and the social impact continues to grow. To celebrate this decade, Simplon is innovating with certified Bac+5 training programmes, strengthening its international presence and focusing on apprenticeships to better match training and employment.

Our mission is to bring out talent, develop key digital skills and diversify the profiles of people working in and with digital technology by offering fully funded training courses that are open to everyone.

On our campuses and within companies, we deliver fully funded, face-to-face or distance learning courses that are professional and certified, meet the needs of organisations and enable everyone to flourish by finding a job, changing jobs or developing their skills.

In France, Simplon has a network of campuses in many regions, offering fully funded, certified training courses in web development, data, cybersecurity and much more. These courses, which are accessible to all, are designed to meet the needs of businesses and promote social inclusion by enabling people from a variety of backgrounds to access careers in tech.

Internationally, Simplon is expanding its impact by adapting its model to different cultural and economic contexts. Present in several countries in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America, Simplon works with local partners to develop training programmes that meet the specific needs of local markets, while promoting diversity in the digital sector. Through this approach, Simplon is helping to train a new generation of digital talent capable of meeting global technological challenges.
